December 21, 1960 Basketball - The Collins girls had a strong scoring game for a 57-25 win over Maxwell. Collins took a 1st quarter 11-4 lead, halftime 29-8 and 3rd quarter 35-19. The Collins-Maxwell boys had a tight ballgame with Maxwell having a strong 4th quarter for a 48-34 win. Free throws were important scoring aspect of the game with Maxwell hitting 20 of 34 and Collins only 10 of 23. Collins had 1st quarter lead of 8-7, halftime was 18-18, and Collins trailing 33-28 at the 3rd quarter mark. Collins scoring only six points in the 4th quarter did not match Maxwell's strong finish for the 48-34 win. December 28, 1960 Grade News - A large crowd attended the Christmas program at the Collins auditorium/gym Wednesday night. An operetta was presented by the grade school under the direction of Mrs. Holcomb, music director. The high school girls glee club sang two numbers between the acts. The sixth grade, as French carolers, also sang two numbers. The operetta "On Cloud 25," was a pretty sight with the third grade as pink angels, the fourth grade as blue angels, and the fifth grade as white angels. The kindergarten, first and second grade were toys of various kinds and toy soldiers. After the performance, Santa Claus came with treats for all the kids.
High School News - On Friday afternoon the various grades had their parties and gift exchanges. The high school had a grab bag and a program.
Optic News - The Collins high school is now putting out a school paper for the students called "The Optic." (Insert 2006: The Collins Gazette ceased publication during November 1960.)
Basketball - The greatest number of Story County girls teams will be represented at the Collins Sectional Tournament on February 13, 1961. Collins plays Colo in the first round. Collins boys will be the only county team entered in the Baxter edition of the Sectional Tournament. The evening's second game on February 21 will find the Clippers clashing with Mingo. The winner will advance to a semi-final round game with the winner of the Baxter vs. Bondurant-Farrar game.
January 4, 1961 Basketball - The Collins girls had a strong game in defeating Clemons 63-40. The Clipperettes had 1st quarter lead 18-13, halftime 34-24 and stretched the lead for 63-40 win. The Collins boys had similar outcome as earlier in the season, losing to Clemons 60-41. Collins trailed 13-5 at 1st quarter, 34-14 at halftime and were unable to close the gap, although scoring much better in the second half.
