September 26, 1960 State Boys Basketball Tourney reorganized - Class competition only in Sectional meets and a three-day State tournament are new changes designed to crown a single boys basketball champion in Iowa. The move was necessary because of increased consolidation of schools, which is depleting the ranks of the Class B teams in the state. The association said no more than 686 schools will field teams this year compared to 737 a year ago. The eight-team, three-day State tournament is set for the Veterans Auditorium in Des Moines, Iowa, March 16-19. In recent past years, four class B teams have advanced to the State Class B finals and two Class A, and two Class AA teams have battled for the Class A State Championship. The State tournament in the two-class system was played in two days, which was criticized because the short meet failed to generate the enthusiasm and attract the crowds of the girls sixteen-team State finals for five days.
