March 17, 1960 P.T.O. regular meeting is scheduled for March 28. It has been noticed regretfully in the past few years that P.T.O. has become a social club attended by few. This organization in order to achieve its purpose of benefiting and uniting our parents, teachers, and schools should strive for higher and more meaningful goals, bolstered by this friendliness. Are citizens of Collins satisfied with their schools - with the way their children are learning, developing and behavior? If so, why not attend and give praise where praise is due? Nothing could be more appreciated and inspiring to conscientious hard-working teachers. There are some complaints and criticisms because they have been aired over the coffee cups and other organization meetings. Unfortunately, all is quiet at the P.T.O. Please plan to attend your next P.T.O. meeting. Your presence is needed. These topics as well as others will be discussed by a delegated team: Curriculum, extra-curricular activities, school spirit, Collins reorganization status, and affiliation with National P.T.A.
March 26, 1960 Three County Boards of Education met Thursday night in the courtroom in Nevada and decided on boundaries of territory petitioned to be annexed to the Collins District. Their decision grants the petition for all the territory involved except parts of two sections in Jasper County, which will go to the Mingo District. The only objection offered to the Collins proposal was by the Mingo District. There are five students in the area cutoff who now attend Collins. Collins now, if this is approved by a vote 30 days after the meeting, will officially annex what was the Pleasant Grove and Harsh Districts completely and most of the Aston District. The school district acquires about nine and three-fourths sections in this move, adding about 20% in territory.
