Girls Softball - A strong Zearing team defeated the girls 25-4 in five innings. Zearing scored five runs in the 1st inning and 16 in the 2nd inning. Collins girls scored their four runs on four hits.
Saturday night the girls traveled to Hubbard for the first round of the sectional tournament. Hubbard won 22-0 with Collins connecting for only one hit. Kookie's Komments - Thursday and Friday we had State tests. The good thing is we don't have any assignments for two days. The library is beginning to look quite nice, with the new shelves and some new books. Mr. Denton certainly is putting time and work into the project.
Grade News: 4th - In connection with our Science we are making an aquarium. Interest has been great in watching the process of building it. At first we had trouble with the glass container leaking. Now we have it rebuilt, the plants are now in and will be ready for the fish on Monday. Mrs. Phares has been reading poems and short stories to us. This week she started Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriett Beecher Stowe. The decision is to have midterm individual conferences between the mothers and teachers to discuss progress and problems of the pupil. 6th - Mr. Willis Lyon gave a lecture on "The Effects of Alcohol on the Body." He told how it affects the brain and also the heart and liver. Dale Doore showed us a movie entitled "The St. Lawrence Seaway." We enjoyed this movie as we have been studying about it. Last year's Weekly Readers had some information about the St. Lawrence Seaway.

October 8, 1959 Music News - The senior band played for the band mother's breakfast October 7. Your support was greatly appreciated by both the band mothers and the band. The marching band has been seen marching by the community and is marching with their instruments for the first time. Lois Struthers, Cheryle Partridge, Linda Atwood, Betty Jane Kearns, Shirley Kern, Charlene Laughlin have been selected for the sextet.
The Junior class play, "Snow Haven" has been postponed until Oct. 30.
Softball - In late September, Collins was defeated by Clemons 8-6. Clemons scored three runs in the last inning to pull out the victory.
