Girls Junior High County Basketball Tournament - Collins girls won their first round of the county tournament game defeating Maxwell 42-27. Susie Kilgore was high scorer with 27, Sharon Hay had 9, Sharon Campbell 4, and Connie Bowers 2. The girls also won their semi-final game, defeating Shipley 36-30 with Susie Kilgore scoring 30 points. The girls went on to win the County Tournament Championship, defeating Huxley 44-19. Susie Kilgore had 25, Connie Bowers 11, Sharon Hay 8 points. Susie Kilgore topped the girls tournament scoring with 81 points. (Insert 2006: Complete lineup of players not found.)
Boys Junior High County Basketball Tournament - Collins boys won their first round county tournament game, defeating Slater 42-22. Galen Smith had 20 points, Norman Spooner 11, and Mort Dodd 7. The boys won the semi-final round over Cambridge 34-24. Mort Dodd had 15 and Norman Spooner 12 points. In the finals, the boys were tripped by Colo 34-32. Mort Dodd scored 12, Norman Spooner, and Galen Smith 5. Galen Smith was the overall high scorer for the boys' tournament. (Insert 2006: Complete lineup of players not found.)
March 20, 1958 "Adam's Evening" is the senior play to be given on April 11. This is a clever, humorous farce centering about Adam Adams who had to make some quick explanations when he was caught arriving home at 4:00 in the morning. Cast members: Darwin Luing, Georgiann Briles, Sharon Kelderhouse, Dorothy Hand, Gordon Smith, Pat Fitzgerald, Verlie Etnier, Danny Branscomb, Ronnie Etnier (junior), Saundra Smith.
The Annual Basketball Banquet was held in the school lunchroom March 11 with approximately 125 attending. Everyone enjoyed the wonderful dinner. Following dinner, the master of ceremonies was Mr. Kenaley.
Basketball The Junior High wound up their basketball seasons with victories by both the girls and boys over Rhodes. Girls score not found. Boys' score 34-26.
March 27, 1958 Three petitions for reorganization of school district in and adjacent to Story County have been filed with E. P. Schindler, County Superintendent of Schools, on Monday and Tuesday of this week. Two were filed by residents of the Maxwell Consolidated School district for the proposed reorganization of Maxwell Consolidated School.

The Collins baseball team got off to a good start this season by winning their first game from State Center 2-1 in a pitchers' dual. The winning pitcher was Gordon Smith with 15 strikeouts and the losing pitcher was Ward with 14 strikeouts. Pat Fitzgerald and Walt Nichol had Collins' only 2 hits.

April 10, 1958 The Collins Band presented its annual spring concert April 2. The band performed very well. The music department will present a concert on April 16, which is in preparation for the state music contest at Melbourne. Those entered in the music contest are: Shirley Kern, Girls Sextet, Mary Ann Kearns, John Tiffany, Darwin Luing, Sharon Kelderhouse, Linda Atwood, Susie Kilgore.
