February 14, 1957 Pinky's Prattle - The seniors are working on the annual in all of their spare moments. There is much work connected with putting it together. The juniors are starting on their class play and also are planning for the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom. Jill Kilgore won the sectional free throw contest and will advance to the district competition. She made 20 of 25 free throws.

The Annual FFA Queen's Ball for this year will include a king and thus will be called the FFA King and Queen's Ball. It will be held at the schoolhouse on February 16. The way of selecting of the king and queen is by popular vote, each penny given is one vote cast for that particular candidate. The candidates are: 9th - Lola Harre and Danny Long; 10th - Pat Hickle and Jerry Dodd; 11th - Georgiann Briles and Gordon Smith; 12th - Janice Heintz and David Fitzgerald.
Girls Sectional Basketball Tournament - The girls had their third loss of the season to Farrar in the first round at Maxwell Monday night 77-71. Eatwell of Farrar had 42 points. February 21, 1957 Music News: Fifteen members of our band attended the C I B A Band Clinic held in Des Moines at Drake University. Those attending - Freddie Altes, Jane Chittenden, Mary Duesbury, Ronnie Etnier, Pam Gauer, Paul Gauer, Doug Gibford, Betty Jane Kearns, Mary Ann Kearns, Shirley Kern, Darwin Luing, Glen Novinger, Elliott Partridge, Eddie Smith, John Tiffany, and Mr. Bell (Teacher). After registration, we divided into groups and went to the respective clinics on the campus. At 2:30 there was a concert by the Drake University concert band with Leonard Smith as guest cornet soloist. We arrived home near 4:30 p.m.
Saturday night, the FFA boys sponsored their annual Sweetheart's Ball. It was held in the new lunchroom, which the boys had decorated with red and white crepe paper streamers. The highlight of the evening was the crowning of the king and queen, previously chosen by student votes, one penny per vote. The queen, Janice Heintz, was presented with a bouquet of red roses and an FFA necklace. The king, Jerry Dodd, received a boutonni?re. Rose corsages were previously presented to the queen candidates and Mrs. Graves by FFA boys. Refreshments were cupcakes and pop with dancing concluding at near 11:30 p.m. This is one of the big social events at C.H.S. and everyone seemed to enjoy it immensely. Very good to see a large attendance, both students and faculty.
