Grade News: 4 - Wednesday we had our Halloween Party and dressed in costumes. We went to the 5th grade and they guessed who we were. Our thanks to the boys and their mothers for the good food and also to our room mother, Mrs. Lois Altes, for the nice popcorn balls and her help at the party along with her daughter, Joan Altes.
Collins Adult Evening School had its first meeting last Monday night. Thirty-eight women met in the school lunchroom and thoroughly enjoyed Renner's Florists of Marshalltown presentation. Next week Mrs. Florence Thomas and Mrs. Hazel Ballard will be in charge of cake decorations program. The men's farmers' class (17 attended) took up discussion of new developments in crop production and crop management. Bill Conover, Veterans instructor, presented ideas and showed slides on ridge farming as one of the new methods of raising corn. Next weeks' meeting will be new developments in animal feeding. Special thanks for a fine lunch to Phyllis Derby, Nina Smith, Grace Campbell, and Mickey Sullivan.
Music News - The fall band breakfast was held at the town hall. Music mothers served and the band played during the breakfast. We appreciate all those who turned out for the breakfast, making it possible to receive slightly over $80.
Basketball - Collins girls lost their season opening game to Farrar 69-50. Farrar took the lead after the first quarter to control the balance of the game. Lineup: Georgiann Briles - 30 pts.; Jill Kilgore - 18 pts.; Sharon Clark - 2 pts.; Janice Heintz (g); Donna Frerichs (g); Saundra Smith (g); Beverly Christain (g); Sharon Stratton (g); Betty Jane Kearns (g). The boys also dropped their first game this season to Farrar 51-36. The game was close at the third quarter, 36-34 in favor of Farrar. Collins boys were outscored in the last quarter 15-2. Their shooting was 27%.
