Grade News: 2nd - In Science, we are collecting leaves and trying to name them. In Numbers, we are reviewing our 1st grade numbers and working in our 2nd grade number workbook.
October 4, 1956 High School News: Freshmen Initiation - The girls were attired as little boys. The boys were attired as girls. The annual washing of the sidewalk was done by the freshmen. Each was well equipped with a tin can of water and a tooth brush. The remainder of the initiation program was in the evening.
Baseball District Tournament - Collins was defeated in the first round by Eddyville 4-2. (Insert 2006: Lineup not found)
Baseball - Collins won their last game of the season, defeating Cambridge 8-7. Beginning the 7th inning Collins led 7-5, but Cambridge scored two runs with a hit and Collins' error to tie the score at 7-7. In the bottom of the 7th, Sullivan bunted for a base hit and Gordon Smith's hit scored Sullivan for the winning run. Collins scored 8 runs on 8 hits Lineup: P. Jr. High News: 7th - Science, we are reading "Out of Your Skin" that tells about the different parts of the body development. 8th - We are diagramming sentences with prepositional phrases in English and picking out the parts of speech in each sentence. We have discussed ways to get money for parties. We decided that we would pay .15 dues a month so we could visit the Capitol Building or have a skating party.
Grade News: Kindergarten - The new individual tables and chairs are really nice. Each table has a shelf just the size of the tablet, so a lot of papers, etc. can accumulate in a week's time. On Monday we put on aprons, smocks, and did our first finger painting. Mrs. Robert Titus is our home room mother and has planned a tea for our mothers on Friday. 1st - We are learning how to print our first and last names and printed them without looking at the board on Friday. Each day we have a health check. We check to see if we have a handkerchief, if we brushed our teeth, combed our hair, washed our hands, and cleaned our nails. 2nd - We have been observing National Dog Week. Everyone told about their dog and what extra favor they were doing for their dog this week. 3rd - We have completed our unit on apples. We learned the names of varieties and also ate samples of Jonathans, Delicious, and Grimes Golden. 5th - We have been using zeros and multiplying by three numbers. All of us know the names of the Great Lakes.
