Semifinals - Collins vs. Story City. The first quarter started out very slow for both teams with the score 5-4, Collins up by one. Collins began to move ahead in the second quarter, taking a 20-13 halftime lead. The lead was stretched to 33-23 at the third quarter mark. The Collins boys hit a fourth quarter hot streak to stretch the lead to 51-31 and the final score of Collins 51, Story City 37. Collins' team shooting was 42% with the Holland-Frerichs duo having the shooting touch with Frerichs scoring 24 points and Holland 21 for 45 of Collins 51 team points. Duesbury and Kilgore completed the scoring with 4 and 2 points. Collins had only 11 fouls with Story City 22.
Finals - Saturday night the Roland Rockets downed a hard-fighting Collins quintet to capture their fifth consecutive Story County Basketball crown 44-33. Neither team scored until the 4-minute mark with Collins being on top 10-8 at the first quarter mark. Collins had a second quarter drought, scoring only 3 points, all by Holland, as the Rockets dropped in 11 points, 6 of them by Thompson to take a halftime lead 19-13. Roland continued to control the ballgame through the third quarter with a 28-20 margin. Gary Thompson of Roland asserted his leadership role in the final quarter, scoring 12 of the team's 16 points, overcoming Collins' 13-point effort led by Phil Holland's 8 markers. Roland had another County Championship, 44-33. Collins' shooting percentage was 22% and Roland's was 31%. Collins did make 11 free throws to Roland's 6.
