The boys survived a hair-raising game with the Cambridge five - Collins winning 48-44. The game was close all the way with the Clippers holding a 7-point halftime advantage 23-16. Cambridge tied the game early in the 4th quarter, but Collins came back to take the lead and gain the victory 48-44. Nerness, Cambridge forward, scored 28 points. Three Collins starters fouled out. Grade News: First - In Phonics we are working on the beginning sounds of W, S, C and M. In our Speech class we are using the S sound in both words and poems. Second: For numbers we have been learning how to read and write numbers that are in the 100's. Most of our Language class this week has been in learning to say, "May I" instead of the usual "Can I" and "I saw" instead of "I seen." Third - In Science and Geography we are studying about cavemen and the animals that lived in those days, but are now extinct and seen only in museums; Fifth and Sixth - On November 14 a tea was held in the school lunchroom for the mothers of fifth and sixth grade pupils and Mrs. Hart (teacher). Mrs. Claude Ballard, home-room mother, was hostess and was assisted by Mrs. Lowell Sullivan and Mrs. Thayer Derby. Refreshments of cookies, candy and nuts were served.
The American Legion Auxiliary has asked the school to cooperate in selling war (Korean) savings stamps to the school children. The plan is for the children to bring their money on Thursday morning, give it to the teacher, and the stamps will be purchased and given to the pupils on Friday. The child is under no obligation to buy the stamps.
