Grade News: Kindergarten - Most of the children have finished their family booklets. They are now bringing pictures of the farm. The children know their first name when they see it in print. Second Grade - in phonics we have been bringing pictures of things that begin with the letters B, E, D, R, G, H. We are using these pictures for charts and booklets. Third - We gave book reports Friday afternoon. We are keeping a record of our book reports and the number of library books we read at home each week. In Science, we have several jars of caterpillars, cocoons, and butterflies. Also, we have been studying animals that fly and we have pictures on our bulletin board of some of them. In Health, we are studying how to build a strong body.

October 4, 1951 Freshman Initiation: This morning I was anxious to get to school. I wanted to see the freshmen in their costumes. When I got on the school bus, everybody was talking about the initiation. I went to the study hall to see their costumes that were quite amusing. They also had to have a sack with two bricks in the bottom. That evening we had a Truth or Consequences program and found out that the freshmen had a lot to learn. Of course, we rang the bell before they could answer any questions. The consequences were humorous and everybody had a good laugh. After the initiation ceremonies, we had a dance and refreshments to conclude the evening.
