The Annual South Story Conference Basketball Banquet was held last Wednesday evening at the Colo gymnasium. The dinner was served by the Colo junior high girls. Entertainment was furnished by Maxwell, Huxley, and Collins. Collins' portion was Shirley Smith singing "Mockingbird Hill," and the Swing Band playing two numbers. Presentation of awards - Colo girls conference champions with 6-0 record, Huxley second with 5-1. Girls all-conference teams: Collins - Barbara Kimberley, forward, and Lola Oswalt, guard, on first team and Bonnie Long, pivot forward on second team. The boys' teams had a three-way tie for first place - Collins, Huxley, and Cambridge, each team with one loss. Phil Holland, Collins' center, was selected on the first team. Those attending from Collins - Supt. Jackson, Prin. Lawson, Coach Schrader, Coach Bunnelle, Mrs. Lewis, Music Director. Preliminary State Music Contest Ratings are: I Rating: Vocal Solo -Lola Oswalt; II Ratings - Vocal Solo - D. G. Partridge; Girls Trio - Lola Oswalt, Phyllis Baker, Arlene Baker; Trumpet Trio - Larry Smith, Virginia Mead, D. G. Partridge; Brass Quartet - Larry Smith, D. G. Partridge, Carroll Smith, Phyllis Baker. The Music Association is eliminating one contest this year and sending the I Ratings directly to the State Contest. The judges were instructed to be severe in their judging, so we feel we did well to receive five II Ratings. Lola Oswalt will go to the State Contest at Grinnell on April 28. The Music Department will give a benefit program in the Collins Theater on April 26 at 8:00 P.M.
Junior High A cast from the eighth grade is starting to work on a short three-act play to be presented as part of their graduation program. Honor Roll: Eighth Grade - Jack Kilgore, Janet Evans, Mary McGrane, Maris Slauson, Clara Maxwell. Seventh - John Vasey.
Baseball - Collins began their spring baseball season after only one week of indoor practice with first game played at McCallsburg.
