The 8th grade Civics class has been studying "Civic Efficiency" on how the affairs of the community are run. We held an election and the following people were candidates. Republican: Mayor - Jack Kilgore; Sheriff - Ronnie Long; Clerk - Janet Evans. Democratic: Mayor - Mary McGrane; Sheriff - Jerry Coughenour; Clerk - Norma Hollingsworth. Progressive: Mayor - Gene Fitzgerald; Sheriff - Tom Reese; Clerk - Clara Maxwell. Election outcome: Mayor - Mary McGrane, Sheriff - Ronnie Long; Clerk - Clara Maxwell.
Girls Sectional Basketball Tournament at Colo: First round - Collins won over Shipley 41-40. Shipley led all the way into the fourth quarter when the home girls rallied to win the game. The guards were outstanding with their defensive play. Second round - The girls defeated Cambridge 50-42. The guards did a good job of holding the Cambridge six-foot forward to 19 points. Semi-final round - The girls continued their winning streak over Elkhart 52-41. The girls led much of the game. Finals - Collins defeated Colo on their home court for the second time of three games played this season 56-53 to win the Sectional Tournament crown. Colo led by 8 points at half-time and 11 points at the end of the third quarter. Collins girls again proved they are never licked and came back with fighting spirit to score 22 points in the fourth quarter to win the game by a 3-point margin. Collins guards did outstanding defensive play in the fourth quarter.
