October 19, 1950 A group of 30 high school music students went to Des Moines Saturday morning to broadcast over KSO. They were on the Ellsworth Talent Program 8:30 A.M. to 9:00 A.M. The numbers which they gave were: "The Blue Skirt Waltz" by the band; "My Beautiful Lady" by the Girls' Glee Club; "Close to His Side" by the Girls' Sextet; "On the Jericho Road" by the Boys' Chorus. This was a new experience for the group and they seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves. They stopped at Ma Porters Maid-rite Shop on the way home. They sincerely thank Mrs. Fred Mead for assisting on her accordion and Bill Sager for driving the bus. Don't forget our "Big Music Night" on October 23 in the high school auditorium. There will be prize-winning numbers from Des Moines, talent from the community and demonstration numbers from the school.
Five Future Farmers of American boys from Collins and seven boys from Colo left on October 9 for Kansas City, MO to attend the National F. F. A. Convention. Collins members - Darrel Moses, Kenneth Carroll, Philip Holland, Reno Milligan and John Carver. The drivers providing cars were Harvey De Valt of Colo and Mr. Maddox, Voc Ag instructor for Colo and Collins.

October 26, 1950 Requirements for Graduation - Sixteen units are required, 15 of these must be academic subjects. The sixteenth may, if necessary, be extra-curricular activities. Physical education is required by law of all students for at least fifty minutes per week over the four-year period. To graduate from the Commercial Course, the following requirements must be met: Five units in Commercial subjects; three in English, three in Social Science and the remainder to total sixteen may be electives. Four credits or two units a semester are considered a normal amount of work for a student. The above requirements will admit students to a college in courses leading to a liberal arts degree. The required courses for college entrance should be taken in high school if possible. English includes four years: Grammar, Composition, Speech, and Literature. Social Science studies include: World History, U. S. History, American Government, Sociology, and Economics. Mathematic includes: Algebra, Geometry, Arithmetic, Solid Geometry, and Trigonometry. Science includes: General Science, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Physiology.
