Collins placed third in a Quadrangular Track Meet at Newton, scoring 42 points. Boozell scored 10 points in winning the broad jump with 19' 4" and Larry Smith was second with 17' 9". The other Collins first was in the mile medley relay of Dick Cory (50), Lonnie Boozell (50), Don Coughenour (52) and Reno Milligan (52) running the final half mile. Mile relay team - John Duesbury (52), Carroll Smith (53), Coughenour, Cory - 2nd place. 800 yard relay team - Kenny Carroll (51), Larry Smith (51), Boozell, C. Smith - 2nd place. Cory and Duesbury placed 3rd and 4th in the 400 yard dash; Boozell and Carroll placed 3rd and 4th in the 200 yard dash. C. Smith and Darrel Moses (52) placed 5th in the 100-yard dash and 880-yard run.
The Collins track team did very well at the renowned Ames Invitational meet, placing in five events: Lonnie Boozell - 2nd in broad jump with 19' 5?"; Phil Holland - 5th in football throw with 235 points; Reno Milligan - 5th in half-mile run @ 2.18; 440 yard relay - 5th (Kenny Carroll, Lonnie Boozell, Larry Smith and Carroll Smith); Larry Smith - 4th 220 yard dash.
District Baseball Tournament at Collins: First round - Clemons defeated Collins. Duesbury, starting and losing pitcher, was replaced in the third inning. (Insert 2005: Final score and Lineup not found.) Clemons went on to win the district championship, defeating Dowling of Des Moines 3-2.
Baseball Team Spring Season Record: Scheduled Games - Collins won - Maxwell 13-3; Colo 11-0; Nevada 3-0. Collins lost - Roland 2-0. Sectional Tourney: Collins won - Melbourne 6-0; Mingo 6-0 for sectional championship. District Tourney: Collins lost to Clemons (?-?), team that won the district tournament championship.

The Collins team had successful fall 1949 and spring 1950 baseball seasons until meeting a "top quality" Clemons team in the sectional and district tournaments that ended both baseball seasons. Tuck Rhodes, Clemons pitcher, was among the outstanding pitchers in Iowa High School baseball in this era.
