1949-50 Boys' Basketball Season Summary: Collins boys with four lettermen back, three seniors, Dick Cory, Lonnie Boozell and Bob McBride, and sophomore Phil Holland, had a fine season winning 24 games and losing only 5. Scheduled Season Games - Collins won - Farrar 49-31, Gilbert 29-18, Cambridge 44-38, Fernald 47-32, Maxwell 50-23, Colo 43-19, Clemons 70-66, Melbourne 43-22, Rhodes 43-22, Slater 38-36, Mingo 46-37, Rhodes 54-51, Maxwell 64-29, Huxley 46-43, Colo 36-29, Shipley 57-37, Elkhart 45-40. Collins lost - Zearing 29-27, Zearing 42-36. South Story Conference champions. County Tournament: Collins won - Colo 49-31, Milford 51-35; Collins lost - Story City 39-36, McCallsburg 42-26, 4th place finish. Sectional Tournament: Collins won - Maxwell 59-29, Huxley 35-33, Slater 54-43, Sectional Champions. District Tournament: Collins lost - Mingo 52-46.

Starting players were: Lonnie Boozell (50), (f), Dick Cory (50) (f), Philip Holland (52) (c), with Bob McBride (50) (g), Bill Sager (50) (g), Kenneth Carroll (51) (g), Erwin Frerichs (52) (g) were alternating starters. Other team members: John Runyan (50) (g), Larry Smith (51) (g), Max Liggett (51) (g). Holland was high point player with a season total of 417 points for 16 points per game average. Boozell scored 248 points for 10 points per game average and Cory had 216 points for nine points per game average and was team top rebounder, aggressive to the basket, and strong in holding a good rebounding position. Words and Music For the past several weeks, the musicians of Collins high school have been busy rehearsing a new operetta, "Words and Music." The cast is large and varied: College students, a faculty that defies description, chorus girls, and natives from the Belgium Congo. There has been a track laid for a train to run into the auditorium on the night of this operetta. On March 3 at 8:00 P.M. "Words and Music" will be given in the high school auditorium. Reserve seats are on sale at the Farmers Super Market or from any member of the cast. All seats are 40 cents. Don't miss this entertainment. We are sure that you will enjoy every minute of it.

March 2, 1950 The Adult Evening School election was held and the following officers elected for the next year: Pres. - Ernest Hofer; Sec. Treas. - Hugh Fertig; Chairman of Men's Group - Ernest Hofer; Chair of Woman's Group - Mrs. Ernest Hofer.
