October 14, 1948 Dr. Edwin Voight, President of Simpson College, Indianola has been secured as guest speaker of Parent-Teachers Association meeting Tuesday, October 19.
Music - The 4th, 5th, and 6th grades are starting a unit on American Music. We started with the music of the American Indian and are continuing through the music of the Pilgrims, Negro Music, and the American composers. Bill Buck and Howard Hofer have joined the clarinet class, Bill Ballard and Perry Weigel have joined the coronet class and Quenton Keagle the Baritone class.
The place - Des Moines; The day - October 1; The event - Senior Skip Day. Smiles, hair in place, new neckties, and that last touch to our lips, we were set for Sarwin's Studio (Senior Pictures). After shopping, bowling, movies, peanuts, candy, popcorn, we started back toward Collins.
October 21, 1948 Editorial - Have you walked by the site of our new theater lately? To most of us, it seemed hard to believe at first that Collins was going to have a modern movie theater, but as the days go by and the walls climb higher we suddenly realize that it won't be very long until our town will have something to be really proud of! Most of us are a little forgetful about giving credit to the people who made this wonder project possible; our parents, neighbors, and friends. A good way to show our appreciation would be to show interest; let's find out more about our theater and its construction.
Ag News - Last week six boys went to Waterloo to judge at the Dairy Cattle Congress. We have been cutting and fitting window glass. All students have made saw horses and repaired some old ones.

October 28, 1948 Music - Shirley Wilson - Soprano, Jackie Keagle - Alto, Charles Maxwell - Tenor, and Jon Reitveld - Baritone, have been practicing for auditions for the All-State Chorus which will give a concert at Drake University in Des Moines on November 27 as part of the State Music Education meeting. The auditions are on October 23 in Des Moines.
