April 22, 1948 Baseball games - Collins defeated Colo 5 - 0, with Bob Wilkening pitching a no hit - no run game. He struck out 13, walked 2 and faced only 22 batters [Only one batter over the minimum of 21, for a 7-inning game]. Collins did not make any errors and had only two hits, one each by Halterman and Long.

Collins defeated Shipley 8-4, collecting 8 hits, but making 5 errors. Halterman, McBride and Stratton pitched with Long catching. Atwood had 2 hits. Lineup: Stratton (ss or 3b), Halterman (p-ss), Boozell (2b), Wilkening (3b), Baker (lf), Tiffany (1b), Atwood (cf), McBride (p), Cory (rf), Long (c).

Collins Junior High Baseball team won the South Story Conference Tournament held in Collins, winning all three of their games by wide margins. They defeated Slater 12-0 in the first game, Shipley 14-0 in the semi-finals and Maxwell 20-3 in the finals. The games were five innings. Vance Stead - Coach.

April 29, 1948 Grade News: Second and Third - We finished our unit on rocks and are starting a unit on how to recognize trees by their leaves and bark. For assembly we dramatized Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Fourth - Finished studying about the honey bee and prepared our booklets. We also finished our geography books and as a final touch on South America, Mrs. Moses showed us slides of that country. For the remainder of the year, we are going to take an imaginary trip across the United States on the Lincoln Highway (Highway No. 30). For Music on Friday we listened to the Fred Waring Orchestra radio program. Fifth and Sixth - Fifth is studying South America and the sixth is learning a geography of the oriental countries. In History the fifth is studying about colonial days the sixth is studying the World War period.
