February 8, 1946 Capacity crowds jammed into the Colo and Maxwell gymnasiums for the girls sectional basketball tournament. Fans attending the Maxwell sectional were treated to two real thrillers when Rhodes and Farrar narrowly defeated their opponents. Rhodes, one of the stronger clubs in central Iowa, found they had a real job on their hands in eliminating the battling Collins sextet 31-30. (Insert 2005: Lineup not found.)
February 25, 1946 The Collins PTA held their regular February meeting. The business session was preceded by a potluck supper and followed by a program by the grade school pupils under the direction of their teachers. This was the first time this year that the school children were asked to furnish the PTA program, so they made the most of the opportunity. A large crowd was present for both the supper and program. The evening was most enjoyable.
Boys Sectional Basketball Tournament at Nevada School Fieldhouse: First round - Collins defeated Cambridge after losing three games to them earlier in the season.
Second round - Collins defeated Colo
Final round - Collins defeated Fernald for the sectional championship - the first boys' sectional basketball championship in school history. (Insert 2005: No box score on the games found.)

Graduation week in Collins begins May 12 with baccalaureate service at the Church of Christ with Rev. Varce giving the address. May 12 is the big social event of the year with the Junior-Senior prom being held in the high school gymnasium. Jerry Sherman and his orchestra furnishing the music. Admission is 75 cents per person. Thursday night will be commencement in the high school auditorium. The speaker will be John Marston, Head of the Department of Journalism, Drake University. The second annual community picnic will be held Friday, May 17. A grade school exhibit will be open to the public from 11 to 3. A picnic dinner will be served at 12 noon. Everyone is urged to bring their basket and attend. After that there will be a brief band concert followed by presentation of awards. The day will be completed with a baseball game between Collins and Colo.
