The sophomore class will give three one-act plays February 10. They are entitled "Cupid Advertises," "Mama's Wondering Boy," and "Highest Bidder Gets a Date."
Third Grade: We are learning to divide in arithmetic. We are studying about cotton. Seventh Grade: Plans are being made for the purchase of a service plaque in honor of former students and teachers from Collins who are in the service of their country. The seventh grade is sponsoring this project and is preparing some plays which will be given at a later date as a benefit for this cause.
February 11, 1943 Collins boys defeated Colfax 27-21 (No box score found).
Boys County Tournament. Collins showed the fans some of the best basketball they have played this year. In a very fast game they racked up a surprisingly high score, defeating Huxley 38-26 in first round game. Lillard was top scorer with 12 points. Collins again showed too much speed and scoring power for the taller McCallsburg team. Final score 20-16 in the second round game. Collins lost to a strong Cambridge five 25-21 in third round game. (No box scores found). Cambridge's tight zone defense had Collins baffled the first half, with half-time score of 18-4.
February 18, 1943 Not until two overtime periods were played did the Collins boys come out victorious in a rough and thrilling game with Colo. Regulation score - 31 all. Neither team scored in the first overtime. In the second overtime Fertig made a beautiful one-handed shot to win the game for Collins 33-31. February 25, 1943 School Election to be held March 8, 1943. Two directors will be elected for a term of three years to succeed A. W. Kracht and L. D. Holland.
Collins girls played the last game of the season, defeating Melbourne 33-22. Neale and Deal scored 13 points a peace for Collins.
The Collins boys downed Melbourne without the help of two first-team members - Bill Atwood and Dorrell Taylor, who were out with the measles. Collins led at half-time 8-4, final score not given.
