February 29, 1940 Basketball. Melbourne won over Collins girls, 54-42. Sheibley scored 30 for Collins. Melbourne also won over Collins boys, 36 to 23. Carver scored 20 for Collins.
March 7, 1940 Basketball. Collins girls lost the first round of the Sectional Tournament to Clemons in a thrilling overtime game, 35-31. (Insert 2004: Box score not found)
March 14, 1940 Basketball. Girls won over Cambridge, 55 - 30. Sheibley scored 29 for Collins. Boys also won over Cambridge, 39 to 29. Carver scored 8 points. Melbourne won over Collins girls 57- 30, Heintz scored 17 points for Collins. Melbourne won over Collins boys 59-22. Hand scored 9 points for Collins.

April 11, 1940 The members of the faculty enjoyed a dinner Monday evening at Supt. Holmes' residence. The one-act play, "The Spider," was presented by members of the Dramatics Club at the Harsh country school Thursday evening. The cast enjoyed refreshments served at the close of the entertainment.
Leave Your Mark. When the seniors were contemplating as to their motto, one suggestion was "Leave Your Mark." This motto has been practiced very faithfully from the evidence on the school desks, chairs and other places. It might be a good plan to practice a different interpretation of this motto.
Assembly - Rev. Ira Ward, who is conducting evangelistic meetings at the E. U. B. Church, talked to the high school and junior high of the need of patriots today. Rev. Marston led the song service.
April 18, 1940 Assembly. "Lecture on Failure," by Mr. Barpen from A. I. B. in Des Moines. He brought out the four principal reasons for failure: "Elsewhere," "Neglecting Today's Duty Until Tomorrow," "Self-Pity," and "Good Enough," were pointed out as the causes. Next was an amusing talk by Mr. McMurray from Radio Station W. H. O. of Des Moines. After his humorous jokes and interesting readings, assembly was dismissed with everyone in high spirits.
Music Contest. Friday, the Collins High trio of Juanita Bates, Naomi Gilley, Jeane Tipton and soloists, Flo Signs, Thomas Tipton went to the District Music contest at Webster City. The results were: Trio - Superior; Base solo by Thomas Tipton - Excellent; Soprano solo by Flo Signs - Good; Soprano solo by Jeane Tipton - Excellent. The trio sang over Station W.H.O Saturday morning advertising the Saturday night home talent play.
Baseball. The baseball season has started. The diamond has a new backstop put up by Coach Gowen and a few helpers Saturday.
