February 8, 1940 The newspaper staff would like to commend the 9th and 10th grade homemaking classes for their hot lunch achievements, serving noon lunch four days per week.
Basketball. The Collins girls defeated Fernald girls 46-11. Sheibley scored 32 points. The Collins boys also won, 33-22 over Fernald. Fertig scored 12 points.
The Collins and Shipley girls locked horns and came out with a tie, 30-30. Half-time score was 10-10. Sheibley scored 19 points for Collins. Shipley boys won over Collins 27-20. Westcott and Fertig each made 8 points. (Insert 2004: Box score not found)

February 15, 1940 Basketball. Collins girls lost out in the first round of the County Tournament to Slater 50-20. Signs scored 11 points for Collins. The boys go to the County Tournament this week at Ames. The girls play Clemons in the first round of Sectional Tourney at State Center. (Insert 2004: Box scores not found)
Hot Lunches. In addition to the hot dish, sandwich and cocoa, the hot lunch now includes fruit and cookies, all for 12 cents.
The boys' agricultural classes will go to Ames Wednesday for the Farm and Home Week.

February 22, 1940 The assembly Wednesday consisted of a song, "Mexican Serenade," by Jeane Tipton, Juanita Bates and Naomi Gilley, and a play "The Fruit Cake Recipe," with cast members: Margaret Kimberley, Lois Hattery, Luella Dolph, and Harriet Cooper.

Mathematics - Seventh grade - we are taking up percents. Eight grade - we are studying taxation, mainly property; Ninth grade Algebra - solving equations by graphs; Tenth grade Geometry, we are progressing with our theorems; Eleventh and Twelve grades, Advanced Algebra, class is reviewing 9th grade algebra as well as taking up new material.
