Monday, Aug. 14, six local Voc. Ag boys and their teacher drove to Ames to the District F. F. A. public speaking contest. John Kingman, Keith Swanson, Lowell Atkinson, Kenneth Kracht, Joe Anderson and Dale Deal were participants.

The first meeting of Student Council was held Wednesday morning and the following committees chosen; Library Committee - Chairman - Dorothy Carver; Maxine Heintz, Jack Fertig. Teacher - Miss Oppedal. Assembly Committee - Chairman - Harold Hale; Juanita Bates, Kenneth Kracht, Dorothy Johnston, Bob Keagle. Teacher - Miss Holmes. Sponsors - 12th grade - Mr. Holmes, Miss Swanson; 11th grade - Miss Harrington; 10th grade - Miss Holmes; 9th grade - Mr. Gowen; 8th grade - Miss Signs; 7th grade - Mr. Perkins. A resolution was passed stating that each class may have the use of the activity bus once a year by paying the driver one dollar plus the cost of gass. The bus may be used more than once with permission of the school board with the regular rate assessed by the board.
Baseball practice got under way Monday, the 4th, with 19 boys reporting. Most of the boys showed quite a little pep, and it will be difficult to pick the team. No schedule has been made yet.
September 21, 1939 Student Council The second meeting of the Student Council was held Friday with everyone present. Following the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting, the by-laws were drawn up and the motion was made by Dick Holland that the constitution stand as read. It was then decided that two new committees should be appointed: Publicity committee with Anne Fish as chairman, and the Social committee with Dorothy Titus chairman. The subject of the annuals for the high school was then discussed, after which the meeting was adjourned. Further information in December 1, 1939 entry.
Assembly The weekly Wednesday assembly was presented by the Seniors, giving two skits: "His Sister," with Juanita Bates as Miss and Marieta Struthers as Lady. Mr. Holmes gave announcements. Pantomime "Wrong as Ever." Reader - Jeane Tipton; The Man - Berle Robinson ; The Lady - Dorothy Carver; The Captain - James Kimberley. Poem, "How Do You Tackle Your Work?" by Harold Hale.
Baseball The first baseball game of the season, between Farrar and Collins, ended in a victory for Collins, 7-2. Harold Hale and James Kimberley each collected two runs, while Westcott, Carver and Taylor each collected one. Dick Holland struck out 12 men for Collins, while Payne of Farrar struck out three. Dick allowed only one hit in the last inning but the man did not score. The next game is at Slater, Tuesday.
