January 26, 1939 Story county girls' and boys' basketball tournaments are scheduled for next month, the girls' event being at Maxwell on February 6, 7, 8, and the boys playing at Nevada February 9, 10, 11. Schools entered in the boys' tourney are as follows: Class A - Nevada, Colo, Story City, Roland, Ames, Maxwell. Class B - Cambridge, Collins, Zearing, Slater, Kelley, Gilbert, McCallsburg, Huxley, Milford. Those winning lassies composing the Collins High school girls' basketball team went to Baxter Tuesday night and defeated the Baxterettes, but the Collins lads took a trimming at the hands of the he-Jaspers.
February 2, 1939 Collins boys and girls basketball teams won from Shipley Tuesday evening. The girls score was 52-21, boys 29-14. This is the 15th victory of the season for the local girls.

The Collins H. S. girls and boys basketball teams went to Colo Tuesday night, the Collins girls taking an easy contest from Colo, 52 to 10. The boys didn't fare so well, but it took an overtime period for Colo to nose them out, 23 to 21.
