Music - Collins High will enter the music contest at Nevada on Friday, March 25. The Collins entries for the contest are: Girls' Glee Club, composed of 16 girls and will present three selections, with a 10-minute time limit, with Mrs. Stone as accompanist; Boys' Glee Club, with 12 members and will present two songs; Tuba Solo - Ross Tipton; Soprano Solos - Jeane Tipton, Dorothy Kracht, Juanita Bates, Dorothy Titus, and Naomi Gilley.
March 24, 1938 News of the Grades: Third Grade - Reading: Our story was "Hansel and Gretel." Science: We studied air. History: We are studying Indian life. Fifth Grade - Arithmetic: We had a test in subtraction of fractions. Science: We are studying about the solar system. Geography: We studied limestone quarries.

News of the Grades: First Grade - We took a trip to the hatchery. There were many little chicks. They tried to jump out of their boxes. We took some more pictures. They will soon be here. Then we will put them in the picture book of ourselves. Second Grade - We had a nice visit at the chicken hatchery. We saw black, white, yellow and brown chickens. We had our pictures taken. It was the first day of spring. The chickens hatched that morning. Fourth Grade - Robert Titus had many interesting things to tell us about his trip to California. Arithmetic: We had a test on division and subtraction. Science: We are studying plants. History: We read about the Declaration of Independence.
April 7, 1938 Baseball has begun. Fourteen players have been reporting at regular practice, and a successful year is expected by all the players. Two games have been postponed because of the weather. The schedule is as follows:

News of the Grades: First Grade - We have a new boy in our room. His name is Billy Hand. He came from Rhodes. Our pictures came. We like to look at them. Pop Eye and Dwarf are white rats. They live in cages. When we came to see them they were fast asleep. Pop Eye woke up. How he stretched! We are going back sometime to see them being fed. Second grade invited us to their room. They showed us a "Fire Movie." Firemen slide down poles instead of walking down stairways. Second Grade - We have fun with the new swings and teeter-totters. (Insert 2004: These were in use over 20 years.) Fourth Grade - Arithmetic: We are working long division examples. Science: We looked through the microscope at the different kinds of mold.
