Collins high school basketball teams closed their home season winning a doubleheader from Rhodes. The Collins girls easily defeated their rivals 39 to 24. They were leading 22-6 at the half. The Collins boys started strong and were ahead of the Rhodes five 22 to 9 at the half , but Rhodes spurted in the last "half to outscore Collins 19 points to 8, Collins winning by a 30-26 count. Wednesday evening the local girls play Cambridge in the first round of the sectional tournament at Maxwell.

Collins Girls Win Sectional Title. Now Participating in District Meet at Marengo. Collins High girls by virtue of their 34 to 19 win over Runnells in the finals of the Sectional Tournament at Maxwell Saturday night, won the right to participate in the District Tournament at Marengo Thursday, Friday and Saturday of this week. Collins won over Cambridge 39 to 32 in a close first round game. The locals secured an early lead, but a late Cambridge rally cut the lead down to 3 points. Collins secured 2 baskets in the last 2minutes to clinch the game. Harriet Sheibly counted 22 points to lead the scoring. Thursday night, with Sheibley counting17 points, Collins trimmed Bondurant 31 to 27 in a ragged second round game. Collins led all the way, but could never get a comfortable lead. Friday night the gymnasium was filled to capacity to watch Collins and Maxwell battle it out for the right to enter the final round. The local girls played Maxwell off their feet in the first half and were out in front 27 to 8 at half time. In the third quarter, Maxwell cut the lead down to 14 points, and it still looked like an easy victory for Collins, but at this stage of thegame Nadine Perin, who had been playing a great game at guard was ejected by the foul route, and the tall Maxwell forward began to hit the basket. In the final 7 minutes they scored 19 points to Collins 6, and when the final gun sounded Collins was out ahead by one lone point, 41 to 40.
Saturday evening the house was packed to capacity again. Collins started slow and were behind 16 to 9 at the half. In the third quarter the locals found their basket eye and counted 18 points to Runnells' 4 points to run up a 28 to 14 lead at the end of the third quarter. The final score was Collins 34, Runnels 19 to win the Sectional Championship.
