The Juniors entertained honor of the Seniors Tuesday evening May 17, at the home Virgil Randall. -The invited guests were the Seniors and the High school teachers. The rooms were tastily decorated with the Senior colors and flowers. Refreshments were served in courses. The evening was pleasantly spent with games, music and conversation.
September 2, 1912 School opened with the following teachers: Supt. – C. W. Kirk, Assist. principal – W. J. Burney, grades 7 and 8 – Clara Signs, grades 5 and 6 – Miss Rose Halterman, grades 3 and 4 – Julia Anderson, grades 1 and 2 – Clara Shearer.
January 23, 1913 The annual meeting of Story County Teachers Association will be held at Nevada February 7 and 8.
March 6, 1913 School Election At the caucus Friday night there was a spirited contest for the nomination of school director. No less than five ballots had to be taken to decide who should be the nominee. On the fifth ballot Dr. Richardson won. The election is on Monday first March 10th.
March 6, 1913 High School Notes The weekly meeting of the Junior-Senior Society was held Friday afternoon in the Laboratory. The meeting was called to order by the president and, after the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting, the following program was rendered: Song, "Flow Gently Sweet Afton" Society Reading, Ada Swallwell. Medley, Vilda Thompson, Edwin Fish, Ralph McCord, Ethel Stratton. Theme, Ethel Dodd. Debate, "Resolved that a religious qualification should be required for president." Affirmative, Ruth Anderson, Ethel Carver. Negative, Mable Hanson, Arlo Heinrich. Song, "Old Kentucky Home," Society. The numbers were well prepared and the interest in regard to this work is increasing. In the debate, many practical points, were given by each one of the debaters, and after a short discussion, the decision was announced in favor of the affirmative.
March 27, 1913 School Board Meeting. The following teachers elected: Assist. principal – W. J. Burney, grades 7 and 8 – Clara Signs, grades 5 and 6 – Rose Halterman, grades 3 and 4 – Grace McCrea, grades 1 and 2 – Clara Shearer.
March 28, 1913 Junior-Senior literary program. Discussion leaders – Ethel Carver and Ruth Anderson. Topic – “Is Ragtime Music Beneficial? ” Physics experiment – John Thompson paper. Manual Training Should Be Matriculated For School Athletes – Arlo Henrichs. Debate – Resolved that Examinations Should be Abolished: Affirmative – Ralph McCord, Velda Thompson; Negative – Ethel Stratton, Ethel Dodd. Decision to affirmative.
April 29, 1913 – Section 10 of the Story County Teachers Association met in the auditorium of the Collins High School Saturday for the annual meeting. Program included: Song – primary grades, Prayer – Rev. Violet, Solo – Dorothy Hanson, Address – Mr. McNabb, Exercise – Color Fairies – grades 5 and 6, Double Duet – Mable Kern, Mable Tribby, Eva King, Mary Holmes. Instrumental solo – Florence Oxley, Presentation of question relating to school method – management following by general discussion.
