June 1, 1911 J. F. Lingenfelter Resigns from School Board: J. F. Lingenfelter resigned his position on the school board. The board met Monday night and unanimously adopted the following resolution on motion: “Be it resolved by the school board of the Independent District of Collins, Iowa, that in, accepting the resignation of J. F. Lingenfelter as president and member of the board, we do so with due respect and respectfully thank him for his assistance and good work as a member of the school board and especially for his untiring efforts in the building of the new school house. ” The board elected Dr. R. C. Robertson to fill the vacancy called by Mr. Lingenfelter’s resignation. H. C. Denniston acted as chairman pro tem.
July 20, 1911 The school board hired J. W. Randal as janitor for the year at a salary of $40 a month.
August 24, 1911 School Board Meeting. The board accepted the bid of Biddick and Holman Lumber Co. to supply the best enterprise lump coal at $3.45 per ton to be delivered in the bin at the school house, 30 tons to be delivered in September and 30 tons in December. On motion, it was carried that school shall begin September 4. The board moved and it was carried that solid geometry be discontinued from the course of study and orthography and orthoepy be added.
September 6, 1911County Students to Town School Free tuition for country scholars in the high school. The new school law enables country children to get the benefit of a high school education without cost to their parents.
October 12, 1911 Collins High School Football. Collins High School football team is now assured. Twenty members are in the squad and a better lot of enthusiastic muscular specimens would be hard to find. October 19, 1911 State Teachers Meeting Soon. The official bulletin for the Iowa State Teachers Association is out. The 57th annual session will be held in Des Moines, November 9, 10 and 11. The program for the general association includes speakers of national prominence. (Insert 2003: 1911 minus 57 years equals 1854 as the first Iowa State Teachers meeting, before Civil War era.)
November 10, 1911 All the teachers of Collins Schools and many from the county schools are planning on being present at the State Teachers’ meeting to be held in Des Moines, 9 and 10.
November 17, 1911 Laboratory apparatus to the amount of $200 which was purchased for the high school is beginning to arrive.
December 7, 1911 Old School Building Moving Workmen are moving the old schoolhouse building to the southeast corner of the old school grounds. William Vasey, the owner, will have it converted into business premises for a drug store on the first floor and opera house on the second floor.
February 22, 1912 School Caucus. A caucus of the Independent School District of Collins will be held at Vasey Brothers Lumber office at 8:00 Monday evening February 26 to nominate candidates for the
