November 29, 1928 The second grade is working on a few dances. One, “The Gypsy Dance.” The pupils contrived their own tambourines and other articles used in the dance. Another, “The Flower Dance” shows the growth of the flowers and why they grow. It shows the rain, wind and the flowers growing.

A new schedule has been worked out for the high school for Fridays. This will give all the classes and activities time to work out their regular line of work as well as time for “pep” meetings 3:20 to 3:50.

Friday night the Zearing boys proved too much for our teams. Both teams put up a real scrap, but were defeated. (No box scores found)

December 6, 1928 Last Tuesday evening the boys and girls went to Slater and there gave them a real battle. The final score being 18 to 11 in favor of Collins in the boys’ fight, and 25 to 22 in favor of the Collins girls. Don’t say that we have a losing team every year.

Monday night the boys and girls basketball teams went to Baxter where the girls won from Baxter to the tune of 75 to 18 and the boys lost. (No box scores found) Nevertheless Baxter earned their scores.

SCARLET FEVER is the most prevalent contagious disease in Iowa at present. One hundred and six cases of it have been reported to the state health department in the last week. There were 88 cases of chicken pox; 75 of mumps; 46 of smallpox; 28 of whooping cough, and 9 of diphtheria, also brought to the department’s attention.

December 20, 1928 The Collins Community Christmas program, which is to be held at the High school auditorium tonight (Thurs. Dec. 20), at 8 o’clock, promises to be an unusually entertaining one, and the auditorium is expected to be filled to capacity. Following the program, there will be treats for all school children and those of pre-school age. The program is given below:

Primary Grades The first and second grade play consists of three scenes. First scene shows Mr. and Mrs. Santa and their helpers who are dressed as Christmas clowns. Next will be a dance by the Snowflake fairies. As the curtain drops very slowly a little girl in pajamas, holding a candle, sings to the tune of Brahms lullaby.

Intermediate Grades “The Trial of Santa Claus” The Grumpy family accuse Santa Claus of being an impostor and a cheat. The judge, counsel and jury bow to the will of Uncle Sam, and Santa Claus goes free and court is dismissed.

Junior and Senior High School “The Tablean Scene.” Pastoral Symphony from “The Messiah.” Adoration of Kings and Shepherds. The Holy Night. Adoration of the Kings. Presentation of White Gifts. Grand Finale. Margaret Holmes, accompanist. Mr. Borough, director.

January 10, 1929 School Notes: Now that the Christmas programs are over, Mr. Borough is going to try to help the Dramatics class. The rush of the last few weeks has made it impossible to practice on the parts. The 10th grade classics are now in. The name is “Midsummer Night’s Dream,” by Shakespeare. They must
