August 18, 1927 Collins Teachers for 1927-28. The following teachers have been engaged for the coming school year for the Collins Consolidated schools, most of them having taught here last year, but a few being new to this school: First grade – Miss Mabel Hansen; Second – Miss Minnie Marsh; Third – Miss Geraldine Emerson; Fourth – Mrs. Henry (Doris Morrison) Duesbury; Fifth – Miss Marjorie Byal; Sixth – Miss Madge Byal; Seventh and Eighth – Miss Clara Signs; Art – Miss Mabel Cairns; Home Economic – (blank); English – Miss Ruth Shomler; Science and History – M. S. Applegate; Mathematics – Malcolm Love; Vocational Agriculture – M. W. Erwin; Manual Training – Superintendent J. E. Hollingsworth.
August 18, 1927 Text books are to be handled by the school. The Collins Board of Education has decided to handle the entire sale of text books through the school, including both new and second hand books. New books will be sold at wholesale price plus the cost of transportation. All second hand books brought in for sale should contain an envelope with the owner’s name plainly written or printed, also the price for which the book is to be sold. The second hand books were handled in this manner last year with fair success, but with the added experience it should be more successful this year. The school will not be responsible for money collected from the sale of second hand books after Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 4:30. Student classification and general book sale will be Sat., Sept. 3, from l o’clock until 5 p.m. it is very important that all students classify and purchase books at this time.
August 18, 1927 Reunion of Class of 1905. The members of the class of 1905 held a reunion in the form of al all day picnic, in a grove east of Mingo, Tuesday, Aug. 9. At 12:30 noon they served a delicious lunch. This is the first time the class has had a reunion since their graduation. During the day they enjoyed telling of old times and happenings since being apart, after which they took several pictures.
Those present were Lena and Goldie Sams of Detroit, Mich; Mrs. Jennie Stock Gearhart of Des Monies; Mrs. Leota Hulse Black of Wapello; Mrs. Elsie McKeever Pond of Waterloo; Mrs. Paulena Stock Dodd of Collins, and Mrs. Eunice Couch Borts of Mingo. Those of the class who were not present were Mrs. Iva Baker McClay, Misses Mary Knoll and Clara and Edna Loerch of Washington. The members decided to make the reunion an annual affair.
August 25, 1927 Results of Tests on English Essentials. Miss Ruth Shomler of the English department of Collins High school has received the averages for the State and for Collins in the English Essentials tests for 1926-27 sent out by the Iowa Association of teachers of English, compiled by the University of Iowa. It will be seen that the Collins averages are away above those for the state as a whole,
