April 28, 1927 Senior Class Play Goes Over Big The senior class play, “Catching Clara,” presented by the speech department of Collins High school in the school auditorium last Friday and Saturday nights, was an unqualified success in every sense of the word. Full houses greeted the players on both nights, the receipts being greater than for years, if not in the history of the school.

First of all, let us give a personal tribute: The writer has witnessed class plays and class plays, but can truthfully say that he enjoyed “Catching Clara” more than any he had ever seen before, anywhere. Miss Ruth Shomler, the director, is to be congratulated on her splendid work which had so much to do with the success of the production. It is a difficult matter to choose a play in which there is a part for every member of the senior class, and the play must be chosen to fit the size of the class as well as to obtain a production that will be suitable for the occasion. This year there were 17 students enrolled in the regular speech class, and others were used to fill in for parts in the play. Miss Shomler asks us to express her appreciation to the parents and teachers for their co-operation, which meant so much to the success of the play.

We’d like to, and could, write two columns about “Catching Clara,” about the comedy and complications and surprises, but time and space will not permit. There was not a visible flaw in the whole production, and the players had their lines perfect. And pretty girls! They were all pretty! The musical numbers between acts were in keeping with the rest of the program – excellent.

May 5, 1927 Collins Wins Another. The local boys traveled to Zearing Friday for the veteran game of the season which proved to be an easy victory for Collins. The Zearing boys were unable to bunch their hits and by good fielding on the part Collins were held to a single tally. (No box score found)
