A NOBLE GATHERING.
A SOLDIERS' REUNION, OF 1887, 1N AUGUST.
The old soldiers and sailors of Story county held their ninth annual reunion at the fair ground, Thursday and Friday. The attendance was unusually large, and the general success of the occasion unqualified. The officers of the organization, the members of Fergnson Post, and the ladies of Nevada, had made suitable preparation for welcoming the veterans: and when the old soldiery came, they found nothing to do but to enjoy themselves. They kept arriving all day Thursday, singly, and by squads and posts, the Zearing Post coming in special style, with a four horse wagon, surmounted by as arbor-like canopy; and about five o'clock the battalion marched down town and back, making an excellent slow. After much rejoicing, the following was the result: Location of next reunion, Amen; time, Thursday and Friday after full moon in August; Col., D. A. Bigelow ; Lieut. Col.. C. E. Haverly ; Maj., Parley Sheldon ; Q. M., Ben. Brenneman; Adjt. Henry Wilson, Jr,; Chaplain, Rev. Moulton ; Drum Maj., Geo. Pitsor ; Fife Maj., Alba Hall. The battalion drill was omitted, the old soldiers having had enough of that exercise the day before. Dinner was served by the ladies of Nevada, at noon; and at two o'clock, after music by fife and drum, Col. McCall presented to the audience the oldest soldier in the State of Iowa-Micah French, of the war of 1812, who at the great age of 95, still keenly enjoys the reunions of his country's defenders.
Gen. J. M. Tattle. Commander of the Department of Iowa, G. A. R., was then introduced as the orator of the occasion. Gen Tuttle was received with the enthusiasm due the official head of the Grazed Army in the State.
