Aerial photo taken of the McBride farm in Lake township in the 1940's.

In the extreme right of the photo you'll notice a small building facing toward the 'big house'. This was the original house - built by John A. McBride when he settled the farm in the late 1850's.

John and his wife, Mary, came to Iowa from Massachusetts. John is also descended from two prominent Massachusetts families, the Aldrich's and the Thayers.

His son, B.F. McBride (Benjamin Franklin) was born there on 11-11-1859.

The big house was built when my grandfather, J.S. McBride was born.

The big house burned in 1963 while we lived there - my dad was Eugene S. McBride.

Nothing much of the original buildings are left, and I have no idea who owns the land.

Submitted by Sherry Murphy. She had gotten it from her aunt JoAnn McBride Cook
