FRIENDS OATS. In 1879 a mill was started in Muscatine, the products of which eventually developed into large proportions. Here was made and placed upon the market Friends Oats, a breakfast food which rose to great popularity. The mill is located on Front street and is still standing, being now used more as a warehouse than anything else, as the company manufacturing the product, some time since joined the trust, when the mill was closed down.
