Mills County Historical Society members are firing up their campaign, to add an early-day rural school to their county museum collection, and are seeking donors to help reach the goal of $2,000 set for the project.

West Liberty No. 2 school was given to the society some time ago by the Stranathan family when it reverted to them following the Glenwood Community School district reorganization. The $2,000 is needed to move it to the new site in Glenwood Lake park, set it on a good foundation and renovate it as needed.

The school was located about two miles east of Glenwood on the Telephone road. The Society started its campaign for funds a few weeks ago when some 660 letters were mailed to citizens asking for donations. The response has permitted the Society to go ahead with the work, but more will be needed to complete it.

Raymond Mintle, chairman of the committee for moving the school, recently received an early-day wood stove which will be placed in the school. It was given to the Society by Mrs. Dewey Deitchler, and was formerly in the Peters building in Mineola which was razed recently.

Also on the committee are Mrs. Otha D. Wearin, of Hastings, and Miss Nell Bogart, of Glenwood.

The Society plans a campaign of personal solicitation soon and hopes to be able to wind up the project. The committee is certain that the preservation of such an historic facet of the early days in Iowa will add to the points of interest in the county museum and stimulate the number of visitors to it.
