THE TELEPHONE COMPANY
In the Silver City Times of October 18, 1900, “The telephone line has reached Silver City limits and are now waiting the consent of the city council to enter and the position
to place their line poles. While the central office is not yet thoroughly decided upon, it is more than likely that it will be placed in the care of Mrs. Lacock.”
The next mention of the telephone was in April 18, 1901, of the Silver City Times: ‘The Tabor Telephone Company have been working in the Northeastern direction from Silver
City.” The patrons of Silver City are glad to see this line go through, January 24, 1905, Silver City: “There are 91 phones connected with the Silver City exchange.”
The Keesee’s were in charge of the telephone office until 1937 when the dial system was installed. Direct dialing is now in use and the only operator is for directory
assistance and long distance.
