Cotten - Granteer Cemetery
(Anderson Township, Section 36)
<--Check here for on-line photos.

The land for Cotten-Granteer Cemetery was deeded in 1868, to Anderson Township, by Noah S & Lucretia (Spurgin) Cotten. The name is spelled Cotten and Cotton. This was a family and neighborhood burial ground. The first Burial was of Mary Ann Cotten, daughter of Noah and M. M. Cotten. She died in 1854.

The cemetery is less than an acre in size, located in a fenced evergreen grove, in a hilly area of Mills County. The surrounding farmland was left to the Mills County Conservation Board by a man named Ray Thomas and is now a nature preserve/wildlife area. The last burial there was in 1959. It is located about one mile west and four miles north of the Hastings interchange of Highway 34; NW1/4 of NW1/4, Section 36.
