Transcribed by Beverly Gerdts, submitted June 13, 2017Mr. and Mrs. Walker came to Iowa in 1850, and homesteaded on the farm that is now the Marvin property. Mr. Walker was a native of Ohio, and she a native of Kentucky. Five children graced this union: a son who died in infancy, and four daughters; Lavina, who became the wife of Edward Knott, Mary became Mrs. Cashabaum, Rhoda became the wife of Robert Donahoo and Theodate, became the wife of J. H. Wilson.
Peter Knott, the father of Edward Knott, homesteaded just west of Letts and Turkington property. After Eddie and Lavina were married, they moved several times, then settled on the farm now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. David Reed. Before this, however, they built the house now occupied by Harley Lambert here in Fredonia, and made this their home for awhile. They spent the remainder of their lives on the farm. Mr. Knott was manager off the Cooperative store here for a time.
To Mr. and Mrs. Knott, two sons were born: William, who stated Kingsberry Inn, and Jessie who was united in marriage to Elizabeth Latta. To this union four children were born: Eddie, who married and make their home in Muscatine, where he is a very capable assistant engineer of the city of Muscatine. Mrs. Knott has a very successful second-hand clothing store in Muscatine. The children are all interested in 4-H work and have received many medals for their club work. Arnold was united in marriage to Nellie Stevens of Grandview, and make their home in Rock Island. They are the parents of one son and two daughters. Arnold is truck driver for the Tri Cities Transport Co., and delivers new cars all over the United states.
Dorothy became the wife of Russel Owens, and make their home on a farm near Cotter. They hare the parents of six children, three girls and three boys. At this writing, the three girls and one boy are married , and Mr. and Mrs. Owens are grandparents three times.
In 1930, Mrs. Knott passed away. In 1939, Mr. Knott was again married , to Mrs. Jetta Church Duncan, widow of E. L. Duncan. Mr. and Mrs. Knott make their home in Fredonia, in the home many will remember as the Jim Lee home. Mr. Knott is 75 years “young” and keeps busy helping in th butcher shops in Columbus junction when extra help in needed. In the summer he raises vegetables for home use, and for sale. Mrs. Knott has many lovely flowers, and is a wonderful neighbor.
