        Corydon McDaniel was born in Louisa county in march 1857. His paternal grandfather was a soldier of 1812, his parents Simon and Mary (Kiser) McDaniel, had a family of six children, of which he was the youngest.

        The father was a native of Virginia, the mother of Ohio. In 1853, they immigrated to Louisa county, Corydon was reared on his father's farm, and received his education in the district schools.

        In 1880. he was united in marriage to Nancy J. Edmondson, the father a native of Tennessee and the mother of Ohio.

        The couple started domestic life on a farm in Concord township. Mr. McDaniel raised Durham cattle and Norman and Clyde horses. Three children graced this union, Robert S., May and June.

        Mr. McDaniel was instrumental in the building of our present church and the family were regular attendants at the church.

        Mr. and Mrs. McDaniel left the farm and lived for a time in Fredonia and Columbus Junction, where Mr. McDaniel was engaged in the insurance business; Mrs. McDaniel passed...

... away January 5, 1935. Mr. McDaniel then made his home with his daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Johnson, until his death in January 21, 1949.

        The son, Robert S., was united in marriage to Edith Latta, February 14,1900. To this union four children were born, Mrs. Eva Blair of Anamosa, and Max of North Liberty, Iowa, two sons deceased, one passed away in infancy and Leslie, in 1916. For some 20 years Mr. McDaniel was employed at the Anamosa penitentiary as a guard.

        May, the older daughter, became the wife of Floyd Johnson, on January 17, 1906, and have made their home in this community all of their married life. Mr. Johnson was county supervisor for several years and participated in any enterprise that was for the good of the community.

        Two children graced this union, Harry, who was united in marriage with Pearl James, and make their home on the home place. And Marie became the wife of F. S. Swan and their home is at Cambridge, Illinois.

        Mr. Johnson passed away November 29, 1944. Mrs. Johnson still resides on the farm previously owned by her father.

        June, the youngest daughter, became the wife of Lester Hafner, October 8,1924, and make their home on a farm near Letts, two sons graced this union, Harry and Dale, both are married and live on farms near Letts. Mrs. Hafner was secretary for the Fredonia Sunday school for several years, also secretary for the “Ladies Aid,” and was a loyal attendant at church.
