Transcribed by Beverly Gerdts, submitted June 13, 2017David M. Hudler was born in N.C. in 1837. His parent bought 100 acres of land, in 1861, adjoining Fredonia, and some property in town, but continued to live on the farm. D. M. Hudler was the eldest in a family of 13 children; Fredrick, Caroline, who was the wife of D. C. Maxson, of Fredonia, Charles L., Frank M., Leonidas, Adrian W., Mary A., Elizabeth and Cordelia B. David was united in marriage with Christiana Riggs.
He farmed until 1884, then sold out and moved to Fredonia, and became engaged in life insurance business. To this union 8 children were born, Emma J., Carry L., Mary N., wife of William Wagner, Cora B., Anna B., C. L., William A. and Earl S.
The Hudler home was the one better known as the George Crull property that burned; where the homes of Lloyd Moran, Ralph Oak and the property of Warnie Moran is located. We note the death of Miss Emma J. Hudler in the February 20,1956, Muscatine Journal, at the age of 94 years. She has made her home in and around Muscatine most of her life, and fol-...

The obituary noted the following survivors, Miss Margaret Collins, Des Moines, and Mrs. Janet Long, Seattle, Washington, both nieces, and three nephews, John Hudler, San Francisco, California, Fay Wagner, Salt Lake City , Utah, and Harold Schmidt, New York City. In the obituary, it states three brothers and four sisters preceded her in death, as there were eight children. Miss Emma was the last of the family. Another generation of those wonderful pioneers as left us.
