DR. SOLOMON DILL
Transcribed by Beverly Gerdts, submitted June 12, 2017Dr. Solomon Dill was born in Ohio, May 14, 1825. On August 10, 1854, he was united in marriage with Miss Jane Fowler, at Oxford, Ohio.
The following year they came to Iowa, settling in Todd Town, where he immediately began the practice of his profession, and soon secured an extensive patronage.
For about three years he made this his home, then came to Fredonia. Their home was the property now owned by Alonzo Diller, and is now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Dale Powers and children.
After establishing himself in Fredonia, his practice greatly increased, extending over the country in every direction.
On Jun 17, his beloved wife passed away, leaving two little girls.
The older girl became Mrs. John Goulon, and the younger became the wife of A. M. Garrett, father and …

... mother of Burton Garrett, of the Letts community.
On June 29, 1871, Mr. Dill again married. Mrs. Mary Koontz became his wife. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Mickey.
To this union two daughters were born, Bessie who became the wife of Adrian Reynolds, and Georgiana, the wife of W. M. Coats, Hoxie, Arkansas.
Mr. Dill was one of those fast vanishing doctors, who was doctor, councelor, and friend to all who needed him. Being a strong man, possessed of the best impulses, having the welfare of suffering humanity a heart, he responded to every call, whether coming from rich or poor, in storm or sunshine, day or night. He was an uncompromising foe to every thing false or dishonest.
In all his practice he never distressed anyone, to collect that which was justly his due.
Tireless in industry, undergoing the ravage which this climate inflicts by constant exposure, he was stricken with paralysis. He continued his day-time practice up to November 1873, when his steadily failing health, compelled him to give that up also. On March 1, 1882, he closed his eyes in that last long sleep. The end of his life that was indeed a solid foundation upon which our grand old pioneers built this town.
Among the ones now; living, who were attended at birth by Dr. Dill, are Mr. Jess Knott, and Mrs Hattie Gellatt.
Dr. Dill was laid to rest in the Fredonia Cemetery.
