S. C. CURTIS

Curtis was born September 9, 1826, in Steuben county, New York, and was the wight in a family of twelve children born to Simon and Patience (Hill) Curtis, The father a native of New Hampshire, and the mother of Rhode Island. His father was a soldier of the war of 1812.
S. Curtis was reared on a farm in his native state. In 1844 he moved with his family to St. Joseph county, Michigan. While in that county, he was united in marriage to Harriett Briggs, a native of Lincolnshire, England., a daughter of Edward and Marie Briggs.
To Mr. and Mrs. Curtis, eight children were born; Edward S., Francis M., H. William, T. J. L., and Nellie F.

... county bank, also a director. For eight or ten years he served on the board of supervisors. He was engaged in railroad contracting on the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy railroad. He carried on this work for about ten years. In 1868, he bought 400 acres in section 22, Concord township, where he bought and sold cattle, and raised Norman Bred horses.
