EDWARD S. CURTIS

        Edward S., the son of S. C. Curtis was united in marriage to Mary Newell, and for some time they made their home on a farm in Concord township. Their union was graced with a family of five children; Maud, S. Carl, Benjamin and Caroline. Mr. Curtis spent some time in Fredonia, then moved with his family to a farm near Fredonia. In 1919, he purchased the home, newly built by Charley Clark, where he made his hoe until his death, January, 1930. Mrs. Curtis passed away December 4, 1934.

        Mr. Curtis took an active part in any enterprise that was for the good of the community. He was mayor of Fredonia, councilman, trustee of the church, and was a highly respected citizen.

        Caroline, or Carrie, as she is better known, remained at home to care for her parents through their last illness.

        On September 1, 1935, she became the wife of Frank Pierson. They continued to reside in the home place. Mr. Pierson has remodeled it into a nice modern home, where they enjoy the respect and friendship of a wide circle of friends. Mr. Pierson has a blacksmith shop on one lit and dies the blacksmithing for a majority of the community, He is 79 years old and still doing more work than man a younger man. He is well known for the many favors and deeds of kindness he does for anyone he feels in need. He has served the community faithfully and well, and will be long remembered for his deeds of kindness. Carrie is equally well known and has taken part in community affairs. Has served as school treasurer and secretary, Sunday school secretary and as assessor for Fredonia.

CARL CURTIS

        Carl is another son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Curtis, and spent most of his time on a farm near Fredonia. He was united in marriage to Gladys Patton and have a nice family of four sons. Three are married and have nice families. Their home is in Nevada, Iowa.

BENJAMIN CURTIS

        Benjamin spent most of his life away from here. He was married and has a son and a daughter. Ben was ill several years, and spent his last year with his sister, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pierson.
