        D. A. Chapman was an early settler in Louisa county. His parents, Ambrose and Permelia Chapman, came from Connecticut. After his parents death, D. A. came to Louisa county in 1855. He was united in marriage to Rhoda A. Spurgeon, a native of Ohio. To this union, one daughter was born, Flora, who became the wife of John Lowe. Mr. Chapman purchased 119 acres if land near Fredonia, in 1872, and raised Durham cattle, and Bashaw and Clyde horses. He was always interested in any project that was for the good of the community, and held various offices in the township.

To the daughter and husband, two children were born, Vinnie and Nelson, neither of whom have married. After Mrs. Lowe's death, and Mr. Lowe's failing health, Vinnie took charge of the household, and cared for her father through many long years of loyal, tireless nursing, never complaining, loyal in her duties, and after his passing, she continues to mange the farm and keep house for her brother.
