        Bennoni and Amanda (Bonham) Axtel, were natives of Pennsylvania. He was of German decent, the mother a native of Ohio and of Irish parentage. They came to Iowa in 1852 the son, P.M.P. Axtel, was a tile and brick manufacturer at Port Louisa. August 24, 1854, he was untied in marriage to Ester A. Ross, a native of Ohio. Nine children graced this union: Alice, wife of Peter Wilson, Filetus R., Perry E., Martin E., Amanda Pantzens, Elizabeth, the wife of James Schannon, Minnie B., Lottie and Electra, twins. Perry E., was a resident of Fredonia for many years, and was united in marriage to Martha Kemp.
