The Dedication Ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. After the program buses will bring folks back to the Museum. A reception will follow with light refreshments and some special, brief programming.

This monument dedication is a milestone event marking the successful fundraising and collaboration of many people, business and organizations who recognized the significance of this important chapter in America’s history. In 2010, a committed historian volunteer with the LCHS discovered a long lost story about six brothers from Louisa County who all served in the American Civil War, and all perished because of their service. James and Martha Littleton moved to Louisa County from Maryland, arriving in 1850, raising a family that grew to six boys and four girls. Brothers Kendall, George, John, Noah, William and Thomas served in the Union Army. Through death in battle, illness, accident and as prisoner of war in Andersonville, these brothers paid the ultimate sacrifice with their lives, leaving their four sisters, Permilia, Mary, Sarah, and Rebecca, to carry on the Littleton family heritage.

This monument will serve as a constant reminder for all whose relative have served this country and, more specifically, serve as a touchstone destination for cultural tourists to learn more about this family, the era in which they lived, and the rich natural and historical context of Louisa County, Iowa.

Support for the Littleton Legacy Project will underwrite the creation and installation of the monument, set up an endowment which will not only help provide ongoing maintenance of the site, but also support additional education outreach work, including a book and a documentary sharing this important Iowa chapter in national history.

Thank you in advance for any and all support you can provide this project. www.littletonbros.com
