The Wapello Congregational Church was built in 1843. It was located at 218 South Second St. The young minister who organized the church was a very popular and respected man in the community. He died shortly after the church was organized and is buried in the Wapello Cemetery.
In 1857 the church was taken over by the Presbyterians. The building was later destroyed by fire.
The Foursquare Church was started in Wapello about 1948 by Rev. Harwell and his wife, who were both ministers. The Church was located on Townsend Ave. They also pastored a church in Muscatine on Oregon Street. The church in Wapello closed about 1962. The building was sold to the Church of God.
The Pentecostal Church was located at the east end of the Iowa River bridge in Wapello. It was built around 1952 by John Hake and was pastored by his wife, Annie Hake. It closed and was sold in 1965.
