METHODIST CHURCH
Oakland Township, Louisa County, Iowa

Transcribed by Beverly Gerdts, August 21, 2016

The Methodist Church was built in 1872 in Port Allen at a cost of $2,000. It was erected by citizens of the neighborhood, Cyril Carpenter being mainly instrumental in making the undertaking a success. Joseph Jeffery was the circuit preacher of this church and visited it from Columbus Junction.

This church was moved in 1889 to section 24, Oakland Township, on the north side of the road and a little west of Oakland School building. It was torn down by Rob Maxwell in the 1920’s.
