THE GERMAN CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH
Grandview, Iowa

Transcribed by Jackie Terry, August 14, 2016

The first building was built in 1858 two blocks north of the square (Academy Park) in Grandview. The second building was erected in 1876 on the site that had been used earlier by the Church of God, which was on North Columbia Street. The first services were conducted entirely in the German language. Later as more English speaking people came to the community the service was changed to bilingual. For about the last thirty years that the church functioned the services were conducted in English only.

Rev. William Vater was the last pastor to serve the church, being pastor in 1926.
