The United Brethren Church was organized in early 1841 and met in members homes until a church was built and dedicated on September 10, 1870. It was built by Martin H. Shearer, David Rawhouser and E. J. Eisenhart at a cost of $2800.00.
The church was located at the site of the Helmick home on Washington Street (southwest of the present post office). The church was torn down (maybe in 1889) and the lumber was used to build a home on Market Street where John Redlinger now lives. Cecil Skipton of Columbus City says that their house is about 150 years old and it used to be the United Brethren church.
